Aineta
Team: Anna Ruiz Rubio
University: BAU Centre Universitari de Disseny Year: 2023 Category: Fiction [+] Synopsis Aina, a 12-year-old girl, begins to realise that she is gradually ceasing to be a child. With the help of her friends, she begins to discover the world in a more independent way, her sexuality, fitting in with a group, etc. Torn between the desire to continue feeling like a child and wanting to face life from a more adult perspective, one afternoon at drama, in the middle of rehearsal, days before the premiere of their play, she gets her first period. Disconcerted, confused, ashamed and embarrassed, she doesn’t know how to deal with the situation.

University: Universidad de Murcia Year: 2023 Category: Non-fiction [+] Synopsis ANGEL (24), a transgender boy who lives with his grandmother ANGELES (89), goes to the hospital for the first meeting with the plastic surgeon. In a few months’ time, the mastectomy operation will take place. This means that living together has to change and the two co-dependent people have to take care of each other. Ángel goes through the whole process while reflecting on issues such as the future, dysphoria, the sea, stereotyping and the struggle of the transgender community.

University: Internationale FilmSchule Köln Year: 2023 Category: Fiction [+] Synopsis The small town of MITTELBURG (Middleburg) in Germany is absolutely average – the residents are average age, average weight, average height. The streets are averagely wide, the houses are averagely high and it rains averagely often. Everything, really everything is average. For this reason, Mittelburg serves as a “test lab” for new products, new TV shows, new political campaigns and new medicines. It’s a system that many of the residents have not only grown accustomed to, but are actually proud of. When JULIE (38) and her husband RICHARD (37) move to the small town, they quickly come to the point of questioning not only the system there but the entire German society and not least themselves as a couple. Overarching AVERAGE (AT) deals with the question: What does it actually mean to be “average”?

As we journey through the human experience, B-Side not only reveals the hidden facets of our existence, but also serves as a vibrant platform for emerging musical expressions, making it a unique and thought-provoking cinematic experience.

Capvespre

University: Blanquerna – Universitat Ramon Llull Year: 2023 Category: Fiction [+] Synopsis Oliver (23) returns to his home town, Cardona, after receiving the news that his paternal grandfather, whom he didn’t know, has died. Full of questions, and at home with his mother Pilar (52) and his sister Iris (8), he discovers that he has inherited the town’s old cinema. From this point on, Oliver faces the estrangement from his lifelong friends, his own ignorance and the family differences that bring him face to face with his mother, whom he blames for the contempt for his father’s family that she has instilled in him. Nevertheless, thanks to the cinema and the figure of his grandfather, Oliver manages to regain his motivation, reaffirming himself through a great performance at the new cinema during Saint John’s Festival.

University: ESDi Escuela Superior de Diseño Year: 2023 Category: Non-fiction [+] Synopsis We go to the Salta highlands in the mountainous north-west of Argentina. At an altitude of 4,000 metres above sea level, we discover a family of indigenous people who live far from the fast and loud pace of the metropolis. Their ancestral customs and traditions live on, following an aboriginal and Inca culture representing the traditional Andean way of life. A simple and humble lifestyle, very much rooted in its origins. This documentary aims to get an insight into a small part of the immense ethnic diversity of Argentinean society, to recognise and value it. To achieve this, we focus on a very characteristic character from the Calchaquí Valley, who has built the second highest greenhouse in the world with his own hands.

Catalin, Adrian, Ken Perenyi, and Asli, each embroiled in their own web of deception, possess talents that push the boundaries of what is real and what is counterfeit. From fiberglass forgeries to masterful banknote counterfeiting, from artful imitations to the scent of deception, their stories converge to expose a world where truth is a fleeting concept and the art of deception is an intoxicating dance. Halcyon: The Waveborn

University: LCI Barcelona Year: 2023 Category: Videogames [+] Synopsis “Halcyon” is a roguelite video game, which uses the deck-building mechanic, for PC. Hendrick, a boy who has always wanted to be a pirate, teams up with a parrot, Perkins, who has a map of the treasure guarded by a terrifying entity. Will they manage to get hold of it and live to tell the story?
HIPNOS

University: Blanquerna – Universitat Ramon Llull Year: 2023 Category: New Technologies and Immersive Experiences [+] Synopsis This project aims to create a Sound experience in a renowned nightclub using advanced sensor technology and artificial intelligence. The idea is that the sensors will capture information from the environment, such as the noise level, temperature, humidity and the movement of people, and send it to an AI so that it can interpret it and transform it into sound. Artificial intelligence accelerates advanced algorithms to process sensor data and create real-time sound and music effects that adapt to ambient conditions. In addition, high quality loudspeakers and directional sound systems will be used to create an immersive, three-dimensional sound environment. The project will also allow for the integration of visual and lighting effects that will complement the sound experience and will be controlled by specialised software to ensure optimum sound quality.

Once there, the presence of Nana (70), Emilio’s mother, will make Clara start to suspect about the place.

Mikado escaped from a mysterious family and past, he has tons of offensive language for everyone, and the dream of going into exile in a fantasy world.

University: Milano Civica Scuola di Cinema Year: 2023 Category: Fiction [+] Synopsis Salvo, a former cycling champion, divorced (or nearly so), is now a melancholic trainer with a dark past in sports. But his present still haunts him at “MUSCOLINITY®”, a huge bustling gym in Milan. During the hottest summer on record “The uphill wizard,” finds himself entangled in a dangerous web of steroid trafficking within the gym, risking the revelation of his true personality behind the award-winning athlete. But feelings are as dangerous as drugs: Marco, his son and a new addition to the gym, presents a challenge to his dad with his explicit sexual behaviors and a desperate need to be loved by the wrong people. The only peace Salvo finds is in Ernesto’s arms, a younger boy with too many ambitions. Soon the Spanish toy boy is torn between his involvement in the drug trade, his toxic love for Salvo and a newfound attraction to Marco.

Opération Croissant

University: Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona Year: 2023 Category: Videogames [+] Synopsis Put yourself in control of a croissant sent by the French government with the aim of demonstrating the supremacy of French gastronomy. To accomplish your mission, you will have to travel to other countries and face their typical national dishes. As a croissant, you have two arms to which you can attach a different ingredient to. Depending on which ingredient you have attached to the arm, you can perform different actions: shoot chocolate at your enemies to cause them harm, or cheese to make them slower, or wasabi to burn them for a few seconds… or simply hit them hard with a pork leg.

This moving film explores resilience and the transformative power of art and dreams.

University: Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona Year: 2023 Category: TV Format [+] Synopsis Every day, we see and hear in the media news about minors accessing porn at an increasingly younger age. It has become the quintessential sex school. Teachers, families and the school environment still find it difficult to talk about it in a completely normal way. Therefore, there is a need for formal education that addresses the topic and shows good practices, which influence the development of the child in a healthy and safe way. The media, especially television, have been key to generating changes in society over the decades. They have the role of informing, but they also educate and influence individuals. Why not create audiovisual content that explains affective and sexual education to young people?
Sin Week

University: Blanquerna – Universitat Ramon Llull Year: 2023 Category: Fiction [+] Synopsis Clara (17) spends months without socialising and only feels able to attend her first year classes in high school. She is deeply affected by her partner’s infidelity. Nina (17), her best (and polar opposite) friend, uses a study trip to Ibiza with their classmates and teachers to organise the “sin week”, a game designed to spend a week of fun with tests and rules to enjoy the island and get Clara out of her comfort zone. Mutual envy and grudges built up over the years end up causing them to drift apart during the trip, to the point of acting against one another. Only when they are about to be expelled will they understand that they not only have to collaborate in order to get out the trouble they got in unpunished, but that they have to start valuing their friendship and take care of it unlike they did before.

From the intense training schedules to the do-or-die performances, follow the journey of the USA’s #1 team, The Haydenettes, as they fight to claim their first ever gold medal at the World Championships and get their sport into the Olympics. While these international underdogs struggle to break the dominance of their Canadian and Finnish competitors, coaches, skaters, and families must decide where their passion for the sport and the real world intersect. Faced with injuries, age cut-offs, and the pressure of skating’s elite sporting world, this gripping documentary shows not only the team’s fight for global recognition, but the greater questions and sacrifices that come with chasing an Olympic dream.

Her ambition to achieve excellence and get involved with the wrong people will bring her into contact with a supernatural entity that will take over her life, cutting her off from her friends and family, until she ends taking her own life out of despair.
