WHAT IS THE AUDIOVISUAL TALENT WEEK?
The Audiovisual Talent Week encompasses a series of activities aimed at connecting new emerging talent from universities in audiovisual disciplines with professionals across the sector. Its main event is the Audiovisual Pitching Session but it also includes other activities like the market for new professionals, workshops, conferences and networking sessions.

University: Universitat Pompeu Fabra Year: 2022 Category: New Windows [+] Synopsis “#7” is a WebDoc where the user will have to reconstruct the memory of a person who died a long time ago using the memories that have remained from the people who knew him. It is an auteur web documentary that seeks to rediscover and reconstruct the image of the author’s cousin, who died suddenly, aged only sixteen on a football field in L’Hospitalet while he was training. A death that left the family very affected and that caused their world to fall apart overnight. From that moment on, the family created an association (Spanish Association for Sudden Death Syndrome) with which to fight this disease, save lives and ensure that no other family goes through the same thing.

One man decides to take matters into his own hands and pretends to be a child online to catch paedophiles and fight the sex and human trafficking in Romania. The “Vigilante from Berceni” lures them to meeting under the pretence of sexual contact and then confronts, films, and publicly shames them online. With almost a dozen paedophiles exposed, is he looking for publicity or does he just have a strong civic spirit?

At the last party the summer before, Cris has a motorcycle accident that costs her her life. After that, they are forced to quickly return to their normal lives, but the doubts and guilt about what happened that night haunt them. A year later, Mar decides to organize a reunion to honor Cris, but everything has changed. During the year, with the group dispersed, all the parts of the story still to be told remain hidden. But once the Braves are reunited, the truth will eventually come out.

Breaking Heart

The aim of this program is to break with everything that needs to be left behind in order to move on, but in a relationship that is ending, should everything be forgotten? The ex-couple will be asked to save one of the objects. In the final part of the program, the ex-couple will come face to face to find out what memory their ex-partner wanted to save and why. They will understand that there are also memories worth saving from their past together.

University: Tallin University Year: 2022 Category: New Windows [+] Synopsis The project’s aim is to showcase the car modifying community in Tallinn, Estonia, to uncover the culture surrounding car tuning and to bring it to the spotlight to car fans in Estonia and worldwide. Car modifying is a well-known activity that was mostly brought to fame in the early 2000s with movies such as “The Fast and The Furious”. If it sometimes has a bad reputation and is often considered as an “American” discipline, there is more to tuning than just “show off” culture and aesthetic purposes. Tuning is now a common passion world-wide and various sub-communities can be found in Europe. In Tallinn for example, hundreds of car lovers gather every week to discuss their passion and showcase their work. This so-called “car meets” occurs every Thursday evening at the parking lot of one Tallinn’s largest mall, Ülemiste Keskus.

Will Kilian manage to survive?

Dance with the devil

After a game of hot potato, where priests attempt to take on the job but resign consecutively, Marcus takes up the task himself to banish the Devil back to Hell. Marcus and Pete embark on this hellish mission, putting their friendship to the test as the two face demon battles, exorcist manhunts, and university parties.

Josep and Frederic return to Barcelona while the other two siblings stay in the family farm in Pals, which they will now have to carry off alone. While Francesc does the farm work, Cristina does what her polyneuropathy allows her: cook and pass the time reading or hanging out with her friend Isabel. One day Isabel introduces Antoni, a painter friend of hers from Barcelona, to the siblings. He ends up setting up his studio and living in the attic of the farmhouse in exchange for paying maintenance and thus helping the siblings financially. Cristina, sorting through her parents’ boxes, finds her mother’s diary with notes about the farm and her life. With this and with the help of the camera Antoni lends her, she begins to make a photographic diary about her life and illness.

We seek to get to know and empathize with little-known characters that, after living through countless life and death situations, have a different way of understanding life, love, loneliness, pain and death.

University: TecnoCampus Year: 2022 Category: Non-fiction [+] Synopsis “Efímero” is a documentary series that enters the lives of people who have suffered from some kind of mental health problem or illness. It focuses on exploring the causes and consequences of different types of addictions (alcoholism, compulsive gambling, drugs, etc.), which can develop as a result of an untreated mental health disorder, and how addiction can be the trigger for the disorder. The testimonies describe their involvement and point of view of the events to complement the story that the protagonist tells. They are either close to the protagonists or mental health professionals, such as psychologists or psychiatrists.

University: Universidad de Murcia Year: 2022 Category: Non-fiction [+] Synopsis José, Rafael and Pedro are just three of the thousands of children born with malformations as a result of thalidomide, a drug developed by the German pharmaceutical company Grünenthal, which continued to be marketed in Spain even after it was banned in 1961. While in the rest of the world thalidomide is a thing of the past, the present of Spanish victims is still marked by the sale of the drug. Since the creation of AVITE, those affected in the country have been trying to obtain official recognition that would allow them to receive fair compensation to repair the physical and moral damage caused by thalidomide.

More and more means and devices are available to us to help us carry out certain day-to-day tasks. This has many advantages but also disadvantages. Do we really know what it means for the environment, to create a mobile device? And publish a post on social networks? The planet’s climate situation is in crisis and technology plays a very important role in sustainable development. “IMPACTO” is an exhibition with a narrative tour of about 15 minutes through several interactive and immersive audiovisual installations, which aims to generate a dialogue, debate and reflection on the use that people make of technology and the impact it has towards the environment.

Thanks to the latest tools developed by Google, each of the reports features different 2D and 3D tours around planet Earth, an interactive journey where the user can choose which places to see. Seed banks, clean energy, and digitisation of procedures, sustainable buildings, fashion, education, technologies and circular economic models are the focus of this project, which is closely linked to the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.

University: TecnoCampus Year: 2022 Category: Videogames [+] Synopsis The game is a 2D Metroidvania with souls-like mechanics and RPG in which you will play as renegade prisoners robbed of all their powers and banished to an underground city used as a prison. The goal is to get out of the underground to claim revenge, so you will have to beat the prisoners, get your powers back and defeat the guard guarding the exit.

Manola

University: TecnoCampus Year: 2022 Category: Fiction [+] Synopsis Anastasio, an old man in the early stages of dementia, is admitted to the Nueva Esperanza nursing home. Monotony, boredom and old age are the perfect business opportunity for him after he discovers a stash of Viagra pills under his late roommate’s bed. Manola is a series that transcends the routine of a nursing home to bring to life the stories of people’s lives after retirement. The main theme is love, which creates relationships between the characters, showing their feelings and stirring their innermost desires, as well as their frustrations and problems.

University: TecnoCampus Year: 2022 Category: Videogames [+] Synopsis Alch, a young alchemy student wants to prove to his master that he is ready to be a proper alchemist. His last test consists of finding two very rare materials and combining them to create something never seen before. MergeIt! is an adventure game with puzzles, with an approximate game duration of 20 minutes. The player combines different elements and objects to create new ones and thus help the villagers and advance through their world.

Nosotres.

University: Universitat Rovira i Virgili Year: 2022 Category: Non-fiction [+] Synopsis Have you ever had to disguise yourself and use a name that is not yours to keep a job, or prostitute yourself to survive? According to a 2021 study by the General Union of Workers of Catalonia, 80% of trans people are unemployed and 44% of the group hides their gender identity at work. Antra, the National Association of Transvestites and Transsexuals, states that in 2020 in Latin America, 90% of trans people relied on prostitution. “Nosotres.” shows without filters the effects of structural violence on the members of the migrant transsexual collective, survivors of double discrimination.

PixelSound

University: BAU Centre Universitari de Disseny Year: 2022 Category: New Windows [+] Synopsis “PixelSound” is a tool made from code that translates the pixels of an image into sound, with equivalences established between the HSB color system and the different sound parameters under an auditory-visual synesthetic conception. This project arises from a creative concern in order to develop an application that is accessible and suitable for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the creation and experimentation of sound through images, offering a wide range of possibilities for use and development. Among them, generating complete sound pieces, or sound libraries with which to work later in musical productions for the creation of new sound environments.

Poliglobooks

University: Universitat Oberta de Catalunya Year: 2022 Category: New Windows [+] Synopsis “Poliglobooks” is a creative project specialized in the production of multilingual children’s audio books within the fiction genre. These are popular stories and fairy tales from different cultures and are available on various podcast platforms and on the company’s website in 5 different languages (Catalan, Spanish, English, German and Italian), providing an educational tool for language learning for children. “Poliglobooks” seeks to promote the use of audio books in children’s education and in the learning of foreign languages, to popularize cultures that are not very internationalized, to improve children’s cognitive development and to promote and influence the learning of equality and multiculturalism values. That is why all the stories produced under the brand are adaptations of classic tales free of copyright and share common features, such as originating from cultures unknown to the general public, their educational nature, similar style and production values.

Pong Fest

University: Universitat Pompeu Fabra Year: 2022 Category: Videogames [+] Synopsis “Pong Fest” is a point-and-click graphic adventure that follows a historic moment in video game culture: the creation of Pong. The game puts us in the shoes of Allan Alcorn during his first day at Atari. Frustrated because he can’t find any ideas, Alcorn decides to take a walk around Atari’s facilities. In a room, he finds Billy, who is organizing one of the company’s legendary parties. Eager to have fun, Alcorn decides to help him, which leads him to find the inspiration to design the iconic video game through a series of serendipities. It’s a video game that talks about the video game itself and that has the additional potential of becoming an informal cultural dissemination resource. This instalment recreates an important episode in the history of the medium, reflects on the design of video games and aims to highlight video game culture beyond entertainment.

Raz Circus

University: Universitat de Vic Year: 2022 Category: Videogames [+] Synopsis It’s a physical board game that uses a complementary application, which includes AR (augmented reality) among other mechanics and promises an innovative experience. In this ambitious multiplayer virtual tabletop game, players have different goals depending on their role. One is the RAZ monster and the rest, the survivors. The goal of the survivors is to get all the objects necessary to escape from the circus, while the purpose of RAZ is to hunt down all the survivors to end up winning.

University: London Film School Year: 2022 Category: TV Formats [+] Synopsis Entrepreneurs eager to start a business compete in a series of stringent challenges that test their resilience, entrepreneurial skills, and their business ideas to win cash injection into their business and support to get their business up and running.

Remote
Team: David Mallén
University: BAU Centre Universitari de Disseny Year: 2022 Category: New Windows [+] Synopsis “Remote” is an immersive digital experience, which uses virtual reality as a technology to transport us to a parallel universe, an unknown fictional reality. This reality is made up of a diversity of worlds created to be contemplated and explored, slowly losing ourselves in their infinity, without any path or right direction to take. These worlds are inhabited by expressive typefaces, entities that seek to contemplate their beauty through forms, without the need to be intelligible, abstracting themselves from their meaning. Each of the worlds has its own typography that maintains a visual relationship with the environment in which it is located, generating a link between form and space. The formal aspect of the worlds combines hyperrealism, based on textures and detailed 3D models with dreamlike and imaginary features, as different parameters of the environment are altered in a way that has no place in the real world, thus recreating a surreal atmosphere.

Riders: a la caída

University: Universidade da Coruña Year: 2022 Category: Non-fiction [+] Synopsis How far can the power of artificial intelligence over workers be taken? “Riders: a la caída” is a documentary that seeks to answer this question by delving into the delivery sector. Through experts in Big Data, riders and other key players in this new business model, it uncovers a reality that, until now, was hidden in plain sight.

Runes

University: Universitat de Vic Year: 2022 Category: New Windows [+] Synopsis Sant Domènec Square is one of Manresa’s most emblematic central locations. But Sant Domènec has not always been a square. If we look for it in photographs from just a hundred years ago, we will not find it anywhere. Its space is occupied by a huge and imposing Gothic church: the church of Sant Pere Màrtir. In “Runes” we take a trip back in time to investigate our cities. Among the well-known streets, we discover old monumental buildings, now gone, with stories worth recollecting. We appreciate and analyse their architectural style with the help of specialized architects, and reminisce about the events that determined their life and demolition, with the help of local historians. To do so, we delve into their history, creating soundscapes that help the viewer experience the events in the first person. Sound allows us to enter the constructions, see their interior and witness first-hand their key scenes and moments, through sound recreation and narration as essential elements.

Samsara

University: Universitat de Vic Year: 2022 Category: Videogames [+] Synopsis In 1972, psychiatrist Dr. Yakob receives a letter from Rama, who informs him of the death of his mother, Asha. Rama thanks the doctor for the treatment Asha received from him during her last years. In addition, the letter says “Remember that life is a cycle. Everything you give, you will end up receiving…”, referencing the Buddhist concept of samsara. With this, Yakob decides to investigate more in-depth what would have been one of the worst murders he witnessed: the murder of little Mstislav, in 1902 in the same house. “Samsara” is a graphic adventure in the form of an escape room in which the player enters the Czarnecki home and must follow the clues scattered in the hall in order to find out the turbulent history hidden behind the walls.

Shooters

University: Universitat de Barcelona Year: 2022 Category: Fiction [+] Synopsis The internal tensions of a group of college friends boil over while vacationing at a beach house. One of them decides to provoke even more and record it with hidden cameras, portraying the complex reality of young people’s relationships.

Si no marxo
Team: Eric Sobrevia, Marcel Ginestet, Ona Pardo
University: Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona Year: 2022 Category: Fiction [+] Synopsis Èlia, a teenager from a small town in Catalonia, has to decide whether to stay in the village to continue with the family business that she loves, or follow the same path as her friends and go to study in the city. During the last day of summer, she will be full of doubts and fears and won’t have the courage to explain her decision to her friends, her father, and Martina, a very special person for her. Èlia will finally deal with her conflict and understand which path she must take, while her father’s words, a kiss, and a note will give her the push and strength she needs to face her final decision, to stay in the village.

Sota les estrelles

University: Blanquerna – Universitat Ramon Llull Year: 2022 Category: TV Formats [+] Synopsis “Sota les Estrelles” is a musical talent show looking for the best teenage group in Catalonia. Nine groups of teenagers aged between 13 and 17 will live together in a summer camp and once a week they will compete in a gala demonstrating their singing and dancing skills in front of a jury and the public. At each gala, the jury and the audience will be in charge of evaluating the performances, and the group with the lowest score will have to leave the camp. All the contestants will live in a camp together with instructors and professionals, where they will be trained to become great artists. It will be possible to see the teenagers’ day-to-day lives through the daily rehearsals, which will be broadcast in the form of a summary at the galas and on social networks.

Soul Blackout

University: BAU Centre Universitari de Disseny Year: 2022 Category: Non-fiction [+] Synopsis In the various documentary categories, there is a trend based on recording events that revolve around the music world. Musical documentaries address issues that represent different societies and cultures, narrated from a series of features that interpret the discipline’s historical and social characteristics. Through the making of “Soul Blackout”, a documentary starring the Barcelona-based artist Hadren, current electronic music concepts will be discussed as well as the situation of many young people who are self-producing and looking for a place in the industry. Through the experience of creating his first album, Hadren acts as a vehicle to show these issues that many other artists will be able to relate to in the new culture of musical consumption.

What begins as a simple shopping trip in search of Kit’s favourite cereal quickly turns into a chaotic intergalactic adventure. The journey leads Kit and his crew of friends to the famous Dr. Jelly’s cereal factory. Once there, they discover that Kit’s favourite cereal is part of an evil plot orchestrated by Dr. Jelly himself to consume the universe… And amidst cat scratches, crocodile tears and robot noises, they will discover the true meaning of friendship.

University: Blanquerna – Universitat Ramon Llull Year: 2022 Category: Fiction [+] Synopsis Ferran is a young aspiring nurse who begins his internship at the Esperança psychiatric centre reluctantly. There he is tutored by Emma, the head nurse. Womanizer Ferran is attracted to Emma, but she rejects him, because he is full of prejudices towards mental health disorders and because she has a stable relationship with the assistant director of the centre, Xavier Bosch. The aspiring nurse encounters difficult cases in a context where he realizes the importance of mental health and finding oneself.

Vilaboi
Team: Naiara Ramirez Exposito
University: BAU Centre Universitari de Disseny Year: 2022 Category: New Windows [+] Synopsis The project deals with the recovery of the historical, cultural and collective memory of Sant Boi de Llobregat, through augmented reality. It consists of a mobile app called “Vilaboi”, the name given to Sant Boi during the war years. The user can be guided through a map with different points which are the buildings that were most important in the old quarter during the war period and that are currently no longer there. In each building there is information about its history and how to access augmented reality. The next tab is the multimedia one, where you can find a 3D model of what the building looked like at the time, where the user can move freely, and also where there are multimedia files such as photographs.
