Virtual Production Supervisor, VFX Supervisor, Director, Director of Photography… virtual production has changed the workflow on sets, introducing new professional roles and modifying previously existing ones, both technically and creatively. Which are these roles? How do they interact and what work dynamics do they generate? In this session we saw how these professionals, in a constant process of adaptation, complement each other to integrate the most advanced technologies and take advantage of the possibilities offered by virtual environments. To do this, we talked with one of the directors about the case of the Netflix series “Berlín”.

With Sergi Silva, Virtual Production Supervisor, Orca Studios; Adrián Pueyo, Head of VFX & Virtual Production, Orca Studios; Geoffrey Cowper, Director of “Berlín”.

Moderated by Manu León, Director of Photography.

The Catalan Audiovisual Cluster presented the most comprehensive report to date on the impact of artificial intelligence in the audiovisual industry. “AI behind the screen” analyses the current state and prevailing trends in the automated generation of texts, images, audio, music and data analytics.

How will AI affect the scriptwriting, production, postproduction, distribution and audience analysis? Which are the most influential companies and applications? How will IA impact jobs in the creative sector?

We identify more than 150 companies, products and experiences organised into 10 thematic areas that exemplify the transformation that AI is causing and will cause in the way television, cinema, advertising and more are produced. AI behind the screen is a useful guide for the entire audiovisual value chain in the face of AI disruption.

The presentation of the “AI behind the screen” had two parts:

Part 1. How AI impacts the audiovisual industry, current state and trends. By Joan Rosés, Editor, Collateral Bits.

Part 2. Will AI take my job? By Albert Cañigueral, Consultor, Barcelona Supercomputing Center and author of El trabajo ya no es lo que era.

Virtual studios are proliferating across Europe at an unprecedented pace. Their advantages are undeniable: traditional locations are being replaced by a more economical and sustainable alternative, while creativity becomes boundless. In this session, we engaged in a dialogue with Europe’s most important virtual studios, winners of Emmys and Oscars for their work at the forefront of productions like Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, and The Boys, among others. We uncovered what it’s like to work behind these global phenomena and explore the technologies and business models that are setting the stage for a new era in European virtual production.

From the creation of avatars to hyper-realistic representation, digital humans are transforming the entertainment and brand industry. The boundaries between the real and the simulated blur, opening the doors to increasingly immersive experiences and new forms of social interaction. On the other hand, the star system is being reconfigured, where purely digital celebrities coexist with others who have been rejuvenated through technologies such as AI. In this session, we observed the technological innovations behind digital humans and their future trends, also addressing the implications for managing and protecting digital identity and the new business models associated with them.
